Why Moon Bridge?
A moon bridge is a bridge that extends over water and underneath the structure is a perfect half circle. A moon bridge is usually placed where its reflection is seen when the water is still. The half circle is intended to reflect in the still water below, making a full circle, representing a full moon. I love the symbolism here…as above, so below. As above in the mind, so below in the body. And what connects the mind and the body? The breath. Your breath is a bridge.
It’s a symbol of congruency and authenticity… a statement or a striving that what goes on in our mind is reflected in what happens in our body. It could also symbolize authenticity between what’s happening within us and outside of us.
Moon Bridges have their origins in east Asian gardens, typically in China and Japan…but can be found anywhere once you know what to look for!
Bridges are structures created to provide passage from one place to another. Sometimes they are created to be symbolic of a transformation, or a passage to an important place or state of mind. The word bridge is also used to represent a more relational connectivity, as in the example, “bridging the gap…” between people, ideas, or concepts. The bridge of a ship is the place where the captain leads and directs operations.
